GENESIS OF AEGIS
The AEGIS name was a deliberate choice in terms of its meaning and its personal significance.
DEFINITION | A shield or breastplate emblematic of the majesty that was associated with Zeus and Athena. Also, known as a word synonymous with PROTECTION For example: “under the aegis of the United Nations”.
PERSONAL | As Commander of Regional Command South, Major-General (Ret.) Fraser controlled thousands of NATO troops in the southern Afghan provinces. Operation Medusa, which took place during September 2006, was a seminal moment in Canada’s involvement in Afghanistan. The Taliban amassed against NATO in the largest battle at that time. Had NATO not protected the citizens of Kandahar and Afghanistan today we would have a very different story. The operation was considered successful in maintaining NATO’s credibility and fostering support from Afghans.
